The modern consumption of video is overwhelmingly vertical (9:16 ratio) on mobile devices, yet most high-quality cinema cameras still shoot in 16:9 widescreen. Converting widescreen to vertical isn't a simple matter of cropping the center; human subjects move. If the crop remains static, the subject will frequently walk completely out of frame.

Smart Auto-Framing uses computer vision models (like YOLO or MediaPipe) to track the subject's face and torso, dynamically panning the cropped window to keep them perfectly centered. This allows creators to shoot once horizontally and deploy natively to every vertical platform without losing visual focus.

The manual way (and why it hurts)

The manual workflow for reframing widescreen to vertical is agonizing. The editor must change the sequence settings to 1080x1920, which instantly crops the sides of their 16:9 footage.
